Innovative Business Leadership:

In his career, Buddy has creatively designed solutions to business issues such as training programs for sales professionals (“Top Gun” training at CSI, 1995). For professional associations, Buddy co-organized and led the development of the Greater East Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) in 2010. In 2012, he was confirmed as the Chairman of the Membership Committee for the National SMRP. Buddy then became a Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) in May of 2015. Buddy leads people using a combination of servant and adaptive leadership, applied with common sense and a teaching heart.

Creative Technical Leadership:

In October of 2022, Buddy joined Mesa Associates as a Subject Matter Expert in Artificial Intelligence applications. Buddy performs business development within the Emerging Markets division at Mesa for heavy-asset industrial sites. At Mesa, Buddy serves as a SME on AI development based in part on his master’s research at UT Knoxville.

Buddy’s Master’s Thesis was developed using vibration data collected over seven years. Thirty AI models were compared for classification accuracy of bearing failure condition of a paper machine roll. Five of these AI models achieved 95% accuracy in classifying bearings as degraded when tested against classification by a human analyst.

New AEC Leadership:

Buddy is ready and willing to utilize his business creativity and technical experience to tackle the issues at AEC, whether they be supply-chain, personnel, or data analysis challenges. A Continuous Improvement method and end game is the best way to lead. The irony is that there is no end game to Continuous Improvement. Continuous Improvement can never end.

WHAT TO KNOW

AEC exists to deliver power safely, reliably, and at low cost (efficiently). While I appreciate our previous leaders, I believe it is time for a change in leadership. AEC’s future planning must be improved. Data Analytics is a key technology to understanding and improving our electrical system. By using power meter data, we can improve efficiency and reliably operate with fewer outages. I have both the business leadership and technical experience to champion the use of new technologies at AEC.

Why are you interested in serving on the AEC Board of Directors?

I believe that the fast population growth in our county is a significant challenge. Rapid system expansion affects power reliability and puts a strain on system circuits, creating operational and maintenance problems. In addition, we have supply chain issues, with long lead times to acquire assets such as large transformers. These problems affect power efficiency, reliability, and increase costs for our members. The Board must focus on AEC’s operational assets, but not only equipment. We must supply the right tools and best-practice training to our personnel so they can effectively serve our members.

What are some of the major challenges facing the Cooperative in the future?

Vote for Lloyd Dewey Lee, Jr. (Buddy)

This election is important!

Your letter with the ballot will be arriving in August, and the election results will be announced at the Annual Membership Meeting on October 7th.

YOU MUST RETURN THE BALLOT IN THE PROVIDED ENVELOPE FOR IT TO COUNT IN THE ELECTION.

Don’t throw away your vote! There is no recourse to vote if you do not return the ballot using the approved method, which is clearly marked and in the supplied, postage-paid envelope!

Frankly, only about 20% of the people in District 8 vote for their Board Representative in a typical election. That means that the candidate or incumbent will be elected with less than 1,000 votes.
